A Study on the Industrial Growth Model in Guilin

转变工业经济增长方式是工业化和现代化发展的必然趋势,是城市性质的要求,是解决工业经济中存在的突出问题的关键。改革开放使桂林市工业经济保持了较快的增长速度,然而,其经济的增长是在一种较为典型的高投入、低产出,高速度、低效益的粗放型增长方式下实现的,这种增长方式已成为制约工业经济进一步发展的主要因素。实现经济增长方式的转变的关键是促使工业经济的增长,由主要依靠土地、劳动、资本等资源的高投入、高消耗维系的粗放型增长方式向主要依靠技术进步、科学管理、结构优化的集约型增长方式转变。

The key to the industrialization and modernization of a city lies in the change of its industrial model. We find it particularly true of the city of Guilin. Though Guilin has been keeping a good record of economic growth since China's adoption of the reform and opening policy in early 1980s, the growth has been of high input, poor output and low efficiency. The existing industrial model has become the chief factor hindering the city's further industrial development. Therefore, a change from extensive model to intensive model in its industry is necessary for the city to further develop its economy. 
