Politics and historiography were always been dependent on each other and took advantage of each other in ancient China. Politics provided motivation and guarantee for the writing of history and the historical research while historiography hailed, argued and espoused for politics. The history of the fives dynasties before the Tang Dynasty was the official history written and compiled under the organization and direction of the government in early Tang dynasty, which was done for politics and finished with the backing of politics. It had a strong sense to serve the reality and realistic politics, which reflected the relationship between ancient historiography and politics.
