Reflection on the Arbitrary Theory of Language Symbols from English Onomatopoeia

语言学家索绪尔认为语言符号具有任意性,这一理论的提出给现代语言学造成了深远的影响,在他的理论中,英语拟声词并没有被归类到语言的系统中成为语言的有机组成部分。但是,索绪尔的理论是否正确?本文将逐一进行解析,通过研究分析证明英语拟声词大量存在,并且可以作为语言系统中的有机组成部分并以此论证语言符号的任意性不是绝对的而是相对于能指和所指层面而言的。

The linguist Ferdinand de Saussure considers that language symbols are arbitrary,this theory has had a profound influence on modern linguistics. In his theory,English Onomatopoeia is not classified as language system to be an integral part of the language. However,is Saussure's theory correct? Through research and analysis,this paper will resolve these problems one by one to prove the existence of a large number of English Onomatopoeia,which can be used as the language system and as an integral part of any demonstration of language symbols that is not absolute but relative to the level of the signifier and the signified.
