Complex Human Nature and Tragic Life——Analysis on the Theme of Human Nature in “The Fifth Child” and “Ben,in the World”

多丽丝·莱辛是英国当代著名作家,2007年诺贝尔文学奖得主,被誉为继伍尔夫之后又一位伟大的女性作家。她注重对人类现实和精神生活的探究,其作品在国内外受到广泛关注。《第五个孩子》(1988)以及续集《浮世畸零人》(2000)讲述了骆维特家第五个孩子班出生后给原本幸福的家庭带来的巨大冲击,由于班的"生物返祖"、异质等特点,遭到家人的歧视与排挤,班被迫离家出走,流浪在外,而最终坠入悬崖丧生的悲剧性结局。本文运用马斯洛需求层次理论解读这两部作品中主要人物所体现的人性,为读者理解莱辛及其作品提供新角度与新思路。

Doris Lessing is an English modern writer,who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 2007 and is considered a great female writer after Virginia Woolf. 'The fifth Child'and its series'Ben,in the World'depict that the Lovett’s fifth child Ben brought great clash to the happy family. This essay analyzes human nature embodied in these two novels based on Maslow’s needs hierarchy theory.
