摘要
直译和意译是翻译研究永恒的话题，文化与翻译的关系研究方兴未艾。本文拟从礼貌理论和跨文化的角度来探讨英汉互译中礼貌对等的翻译策略， 并提出直译和意译构成一个连续体，翻译策略从总体来看是取这个连续体中的某一值。
Much has been talked about literal and free translation strategies and the study of the relationship between culture and translation has been voguish. From a perspective of politeness theory, the paper attempts to provide an explanation of how the two above-mentioned translation strategies work in the translation between Chinese and English in terms of politeness equivalence.
