This paper introduces the classification of orienteering cross-country sports: scoring orientation,relay orientation,night orientation,skiing orientation,five-day orientation,special line orientation and campus orientation. It finds out the characteristics of skills: starting point skills training,checkpoint skills training,end point skills training. It analyses the characteristics of sports: interesting,social,entertaining,extensive and competitive,which has educational and military significance. It expounds the development trend of orienteering in China,so that participants can establish the concept of lifelong sports.
