On the cultural connotation of patriotism

爱国主义新时期的文化内涵,应具有开放的胸襟与大度的容纳,同时还具有理性的思维与科学的实践。爱国主义不仅要保持自身的民族气节,充满民族自信,正视历史的责任,响应时代的呼唤,而且要体现出时代特色和新的文化发展要求。在加强民族团结、维护祖国统一的教育中,要坚持党的民族、宗教政策,宣传马克思主义的民族、宗教观;宣传各族人民为维护民族团结,反对民族分裂做出的不懈努力和历史贡献。

Patriotism as a cultural connotation of the new era should be characterized with open mind and magnanimity, as well as a rational thinking and scientifi c practice. Patriotism not only indicates that we should maintain our own national integrity and national self-confidence, envisage the historical responsibility and response to the call of the times, but also reflects the era characteristics and the requirements of new culture development. In the education of strengthening national unity, maintaining the motherland-reunifi cation we must adhere to our party's ethnic and religious policies, propagandize Marxist ethnic and religious view; propagandize the unremitting efforts and historical contribution that people of all nationalities have made in safeguarding national unity and opposing nation splittism.
