Correct parameters of safety valve and correct selection of valve type and size are keys for the safe operation of equipment and vessels. In this article, the classification of safety valve, the working mechanisms of spring valve and pilot-operated valve were introduced. The important parameters for safety valve, including set pressure, nozzle sectional area and releasing volume, were calculated. In addition the selection of valve type, nominal size and nominal pressure of safety valves were analyzed.
