北大歌谣研究会是冲破政治和文化保守势力的笑骂和抨击,表达其观念、开展活动的。在这个大的研究群体中,至少包括了三种类型的学者:一是受西方人类学派影响较多的学者,如周作人等;二是重视和提倡搜集歌谣,但就其立场而言是从文学的角度研究歌谣的学者,如刘半农、胡适等;三是乡土研究的学者,如顾颉刚、董作宾、常惠等。他们在现代启蒙运动中产生,作为中国民间文艺学史上的第一个流派,以《北大日刊》、《歌谣》周刊以及《晨报》副刊等报刊为阵地,一开始就高扬一向被以贵族文化为核心的传统文化所鄙睨的平民口头文学的旗帜,在建立中国新文化、新文学的伟大运动中发挥了重要作用和产生了深远影响。

Folk Song Research Association of Beijing University survived in the mocking,abuse and attacks in speeches and writings of the political and cultural conservatives.In this major resarching group,there are,at least,three types of scholars:scholars under Western anthropology influence,for instance,Zhou Zuoren,etc;scholars who advocate and pay attention to the folk song collection.They are studying from the literature perspective,such as,Liu Bannong,Hu Shi,etc.The third ones are those who study native land,for example,Gu Jiegang,Dong Zuobin,Chang Hui,etc.They were emerging from contemporary Enlightenment.As the first sect in the history of Chinese folk art and literature study,they published Peking University Daily,Folk Song Weekly and Morning Paper Supplement.At the very beginning,they held the great banner of oral literature,which was despised by the traditional noble culture.They played an important role in building the new culture and literature.
