Cultural Default and Compensational Strategies of Chinese Literary Theory:English Translation with Criticism

文化缺省指的是同一文化背景的人在交际过程中对双方共有文化背景知识的省略。中国古典文论中蕴含有大量的具有民族特色的文化信息,在翻译过程中要恰当地补偿这些有民族蕴意的文化信息,译者面临极大地困难和挑战。结合《中国文论:英译与评论》一书中的翻译实例,对其中的文化缺省现象进行了细致分析,并总结了译者采用的四种主要的补偿策略。

Cultural default is defined as the absence of relevant cultural background information shared by the two sides in communication .Much cultural information with national characteristics contains in Chi‐nese classical literary theory .The cultural information which has traditional connotation should be compen‐sated during translation ,and translators will meet great difficulty and challenge .Cultural default was ana‐lyzed in detail by some translation examples in Chinese Literary Theory :English Translation with Criti‐cism ,and the four main compensational strategies which the writer takes were summarized .
