摘要
众所周知,当前我国高校普遍存在的高质量ESP师资短缺问题已经成为影响ESP教学效果的一大瓶颈。以哈钦森和沃特斯的教师观为基础,对ESP学习者开展了大范围的网络调查,并分析中国教育体制及国情下,学生对ESP教师的期待与要求。调查结果表明,哈钦森和沃特斯的教师观在中国并不适用。比如:哈钦森等认为ESP教师应该是由英语教师担任,而且他们不一定是相关领域的专家;但是,调查显示单纯只精通英语而没有一定相关领域理论知识和实践经验的老师并不能让学生信服。因此,ESP教师考虑自身职业发展时,要立足我国实际,一定程度上考虑中国学生的需求。
We all know that the current widespread lack of qualified ESP teachers has become a bottleneck restricting the effect of ESP teaching.On the basis of Hutchinson & Waters' conception of ESP teachers,authors of this essay carried out an extensive online research on ESP learners' needs,subsequently analyzes expectations of Chinese students from ESP teachers.Research results show that Hutchinson & Waters' conception is not fully applicable to Chinese students.For example,Hutchinson & Waters hold that ESP teachers should be derived from English teachers,and it's not necessary that they are experts in corresponding fields.However,the reality is that sheer English teachers without certain amounts of major knowledge and practical experience are not what Chinese students expect.Thus,expectation of Chinese students should be taken into consideration when it comes to ESP teachers' professional development.
