The Lion Rock, also known as the Bizarre Beast Rock and adjacent to the Valley of Cooling Pavilion,is one of the eight scenes of Jianghua and a cultural relics protection site of Yongzhou City.Notes of the Lion Rock was composed by Huang Qian–magistrate of Jianghua County during the Yuanfeng Reign Period of Northern Song Dynasty. It was inscribed on a stone tablet, only one corner of which exists today.Annals of Yongzhou Prefecture compiled in the reign periods of Hongzhi and Longqing respectively both include the full text of the Notes, but these are not accurate texts. This paper restores the full text in its original on the basis of the residual stone tablet and collates Notes of the Lion Rock contained in four different documents. The life of the author of Notes is unknown, and this paper identifies him as different from Huang Jin–grand scholar of the Imperial Academy of the Yuan dynasty mentioned in The Complete Essays of the Yuan Dynasty.
