士相见用“雉”疑义

Suspicion on the Meaning of “Pheasant” in the Etiquette of Shi(士) Meeting Each Other

士相见以雉为挚,其中"雉"在历代礼经注疏中与其他礼书中被赋予了特殊含义。然而,从礼仪本身的内在逻辑来看,这种被后世赋予的意义却于礼于理皆未为通达。比较各种相见礼所用之挚,可以发现相见礼起源于原始狩猎时代,其礼物仅体现宾者对拜见者的尊敬之义,礼物与宾者间并无隐喻或象征之关系。后世礼仪中不同身份地位者所执挚有差别是由不同身份地位者财产经济状况不同而决定。

In the etiquette of "shi(士)"meeting each other, as a gift, the pheasant had entrusted with special meaning in the ancient times. However, looking from the intrinsic logic of the etiquette, the significance does not tally actually the truth and the ritual essence. If we compared with different gifts in different meeting, we may discover such etiquette origins from the primitive hunting time, the gift merely shows the respect of the man who send the present to the receiver, the gifts between the human who gives a present do not certainly have the metaphor or the symbolic relations. Afterwards, the different status person used the different gift in the etiquette is decided by respective financial circumstance
