Theory of Harmonious Society in Guanzi

管子》认为,发展生产,关注民生是社会和谐的基础;道德教化是内在条件;公平正义是保障;士农工商忠于职守是基石;因天时、辩地利、讲人和是关键;君主圣明是前提。启示是:社会和谐的要义是顺民心,兴民利,解民忧,基本途径和方法是发展经济,改善民生,振民德、铸民魂,灵魂和保障是公平正义,根本要件是社会全体成员各安其位,各尽其能,各得其所,领导者严以修身,亲民爱民,秉公用权是前提。

The Theory of Harmonious Society in Guanzi includes the following contents. Development of production and being concerned about people’s livelihood is the basis of harmonious society. Moral education is an intrinsic requirement. Fairness and justice is security. Everyone’s devotion to duty is foundation. Convenient condition is key. A wise king is premise. It gives us hints that a harmonious society depends on conforming to people’s mind, protecting people’s interest and solving people’s worries. Only through economic development can it be realized. Everybody having his proper place is necessary. Leaders should be strict with themselves and kind to people and don’t abuse their power.
