CHINA′S MFN STATUS AND SINO-US RELATIONS

近几年来,中国的贸易最惠国地位问题一直是美国国会内部,特别是美国国会和美国政府之间长期争论的一个重要向题。这一问题在近年中也成为中美关系的一个焦点。

The paper says that the dispute over China's MFN status was caused by a series of events from 'June 4' case to the collapse of the Soviet Union.The purpose of Clinton's executive order is to add additional conditions to China's MFN status while avoiding temporarily direct confrontation with China so as to be somewhat different from Bush's attitude.Although Clinton's executive order casted shadows on the MFN issue,people must not be pessimistic about the future of Sino-American relations.There exists common interest shared by the two countries in many areas of world affairs,and it is fully possible for them to build solid basis for the successful development of bilateral relations.
