An Analysis of the Filial Conduct of Cutting Flesh to Heal Parents in Xiuning Area in the Qing Dynasty

刲股疗亲作为一种孝行,在清代的休宁地区有刲股者队伍庞大,成分复杂;刲股施药对象扩大;刲股方式渐趋理性,刲股行为隐蔽及疗效不确定等特点,而促成此态势的原因亦相当复杂。

For complex reasons, cutting flesh to heal parent, as one kind of filial conduct, was prevailing in Xiuning Area in the Qing Dynasty with the following features: people engaged in this conduct were large in number and complex in class; the object of the treatment was expanded; the way of cutting flesh became reasonable and concealed; the efficacy of the method was uncertain and so on.
