莎士比亚的历史剧《亨利五世》是以戏剧的方式,为享有中世纪英格兰"伟大的国王战士"之誉的亨利五世,谱写的英雄史诗,即戏中的史诗。作为一名天才编剧,莎士比亚懂戏,更懂舞台。他对在舞台上再现亨利五世王朝复杂的真实历史毫无兴趣,深知一座小舞台搁不下那么多宫廷秘史。他只想截取"亨利五世大获全胜"的阿金库尔之战,让女王伊丽莎白时代的英格兰人重温先祖战胜法兰西王国的最大荣耀。简言之,莎士比亚只想把这部"颂圣"的"英雄史诗"搬上舞台,或者说,为使这部"颂圣"大戏好看,他必须不断穿插逗趣、搞笑、甚至打闹的戏剧情景,以至于剧中的"英雄史"几乎成了国王的独角戏。

Shakespeare’s historical play Henry V,in a dramatic way,composes a heroic epic in the play for Henry V,who enjoyed the reputation of'the great king warrior'in medieval England.As a talented playwright,Shakespeare knew more about theatre and stage.He had no interest in reproducing the true history of the complex dynasty of Henry V on stage and clearly knew that the stage was too small to present so many court secrets.He only wanted to make a clip of the Battle of Agincourt,in which Henry V won a great victory,so as to give a chance for the Englishmen in the Queen Elizabeth era to review the glory of their ancestors against the Kingdom of France.In short,Shakespeare only wanted to put this'heroic epic'of'eulogizing'on the stage,or in order to make the'eulogizing'play attractive,he had to constantly introduce funny,humorous or even hilarious scenes in the play.As a result,the'heroic history'in the play almost became the king’s monodrama.
