丁家立与北洋大学堂

Charles Daniel Tenney and Peiyang University

北洋大学堂是中国近代第一所大学 ,丁家立以总教习身份主持该校长达 11年之久 ,对学堂的规模、学制、规章制度的制定以及教习的延聘、招生、资送学生留学、校址变迁等方面做出了巨大贡献 。

Peiyang University, the first university in modern China, was in the charge of Charles Daniel Tenney as long as 11 years. He mapped out the scale, the system and the institutions of Peiyang University, employed outstanding teachers, enrolled excellent students, subsidized students abroad,and fought for the location of Peiyang University. He devoted himself not only to Peiyang University but also to the higher education of modern China.
