摘要
该文以《财富》杂志评选出的世界500强排行榜中的美国公司为对象,并登陆其官方网站收集公司的英文简介。在2009年上榜的140家美国公司中,作者共收集到其中122家公司的英文简介,并将收集到的简介文本按公司类型进行分类,初步建立了一个拥有近3万英文单词的模拟语料库。其后,论文对500强美国公司的简介进行语言学方向的研究,得出公司英文简介中存在的特定的语义结构和信息结构。该结论不仅对于韩礼德的语言学理论具有现实意义,同时,研究结论对于中国公司在进行英文简介的翻译活动中具有重要的理论指导意义。研究结果表明:在语义结构方面,公司简介中主要存在时间性主位和地点性主位;在信息结构方面,公司简介采用了旧信息-新信息的模式。
The paper targets at the American companies listed on Fortune Global 500 and collects their company profiles from the official websites.In the year 2009,140 American companies were listed,and the author finds 122 on-line company profiles of them.Then,the profiles are classified into different categories based on the company types and a corpus of approximately 30,000 English words is established.The paper analyzes the company profiles from a linguistic perspective and intends to discover their unique thematic structure and information structure.The conclusion has not only realistic significance to Halliday's theories but also instructive application during the English translation of Chinese company profiles.The results show that,in thematic structure,the company profiles mainly contain temporal theme and locative theme;in information structure,they adopt the given-and-new information structure.
