s:This paper endeavours to give a review and a preview of the four British Shakespeare conferences 2009-2012 by summarizing,analysing and comparing the themes and topics of the conferences.In doing so,it also aims to show the features and current trends of British Shakespeare studies which could also to some extent reflect Shakespeare studies on a global level.Shakespeare in performance is a highlight of the conferences,especially of the BSA conferences.The paper points out that,in terms of the themes and topics covered by the conferences,Shakespeare on the page and Shakespeare on the stage,local Shakespeare and global Shakespeare,outside Shakespeare and inside Shakespeare are not regarded as separate entities any more,and their interwoven relationship are considered by more and more scholars and this perspective would help to access the truth and depth of Shakespeare as well as make the world of Shakespeare dynamic and rich.
