This paper focuses on introducing Harmer's ESA three elements:engage,study and activate.According to the change of these three elements' sequence with different arrangements,three kind of lesson patterns,straight arrow sequence,boomerang sequence,and patchwork sequence,can be designed and practiced in the classroom.the author illustrates the practice of ESA in the listening classroom teaching with particular examples,and further proves that this is really an effective and practical approach in language teaching.
