The Transplantation of Symbolism:The Comparative Analysis of Symbolism in The Joy Luck Club and Its Film Adaptation

文学作品的电影改编通常被认为是对原作的背叛。甚至一些电影艺术家也认为电影是一种由"照相术"发展而来的较直观的艺术表现形式,而文学中抽象的概念和意象美是难以用直观的影象来表达的。《喜福会》是华裔女作家谭恩美的代表作,含义深远的意象是作品的一个显著特征。通过比较分析小说及其电影改编作品的意象,探讨抽象的文学意象是如何被移植到电影中的,从而突出改编的价值,解构文学与电影之间的二元对立。

Film adaptation is usually being attacked by scholars as well as audience as a betrayer of the original literary work。Even for the cinematic scholars,film is considered as a kind of direct picture,thus impossible to depict abstract ideas,which literary language adept at.The symbolism in Amy Tan’ s novel The Joy Luck Club and Wayne Wang’ s film adaptation will be compared to see how the symbolism in literature can be transplanted into screen in order to highlight the value of adaptation and deconstruct the binary opposition between film and literature.
