The ' Lucy poems' are a series of unaffected English verses infused with a strong idea of death.Wordsworth' s awareness of death has certain connection with his ambivalent view of nature.Nature proves to be both benevolent and destructive in these poems.Wordsworth is perplexed by this duality of nature. On one hand,he worships Mother Nature' s purifying effect on human nature;on the other hand,he is tormented by the fragility and transience of life as well as the unpredictability and inevitability of death. In these poems, struggling between Lucy' s untimely death and the painful experience he suffered after her death,he eventually believes that death is one of the medium for life to reunite with nature, thus to attain its divinity and immortality in the universe.Wordsworth' s awareness of death reflects this meditation over the significance of life and his ultimate concern over man' s life.
