形、音、义是组成语言的三要素。其中词义负责表达思想、承载信息;语音和意义之间没有任何逻辑联系,但在特定语境中,说话者可以运用重音、音素、节奏、停顿、音调等语音手段改变词句的语用意义。在现代语言学研究中,语音的功能越来越受到重视,主要体现在语境、审美、辨别、及其民族文化心理等四个方面。只有深入了解语音的功能,英语学习者才会对语言产生浓烈的兴趣并从中获得乐趣。

Language is composed of three elements:shape,sound and meaning,among which meaning works as a tool to convey thought and feeling.Yet no logical link exists between sound and meaning,but in certain given context,people can easily bring suprasegmental means like stress,phoneme,rhythm,pause and tone into use to limit or transmit the pragmatic meaning of a particular sentence and word.In modern linguistic research,sound plays an increasingly important role,displayed from the angle of context,aesthetic taste,identification and ethnic psychology,Only if further understand the features of sound can English learners develop a deep interest in language and achieve pleasure.
