摘要
语言是人类交流的重要手段,而沉默同样能传达丰富的信息,甚至是语言难以表达的内容。然而,在不同的地区,不同的文化中,人们对沉默的理解也大不相同,这些差异往往会在跨文化交流中产生误解。该文拟从文化差异的角度阐释沉默现象在东西方文化中的不同定义,以及东西方文化对待沉默的不同态度和表现,从而提高交际的有效性。
Language is an important means of human communication; silence can also convey a wealth of information, or even content beyond language. However, in different areas and different cultures, people value silence in a totally different way, and these differences often lead to misunderstanding in intercultural communication. This paper interprets the different definitions of silence phenomenon in eastern and western cultures, and two cultures'different attitudes and representations of keeping silent, thus improving the effectiveness of communication.
