从功能目的论的角度探析军事英语的翻译

An Analysis of Military English Translation from the Perspective of Functionalism

军事英语作为一种专门用途英语,有着鲜明的目的性,实用性,和专业性等特点。而功能派翻译理论,以目的论为核心,强调翻译的目的性,跨文化性和以译者为中心的人际互动性。该文着重分析了功能派翻译理论对军事英语翻译的理论契合性和指导意义,并利用前者的功能翻译类型学的观点,分析了文献型翻译和工具型翻译在军事英语翻译实践中的具体运用。

As a branch of ESP(English for Specific Purposes),military English is characterized by its definite intentionality,func tionality and professionalism,which have posed a challenge for military English translation.Functionalism or Functionalist Ap proach to Translation,with Skopos Theory as its key,defines translation as a purposeful culture-transcending process.Translators,in this respect,are involved in a more complicated bond with both the source text authors,the commissioners of the translation task,and the target text readers.Therefore,in this paper,a detailed analysis of Functionalism is carried out to shed some light on the translation of military English both in theory and practice.Moreover,two types of translation in Functionalism,i.e.documen tary translation and instrumental translation,are introduced to show how they can be widely adopted in military English transla tion.
