摘要
基于van Dijk和Halliday的语篇三维度理论和任绍曾的语篇的多维分析的方法,同时结合海明威作为美国"迷惘的一代"的代表人物和他关于写作的"冰山原则",从语言使用、社会互动和信念传递三个维度对海明威的短篇小说《白象似的群山》进行了语篇分析。结果表明,对语篇进行三个维度的分析有助于把握小说的喻义和主题。最后总结了从三个维度对小说进行语篇分析的长处和不足之处。
The article aims to make a discourse analysis of Hemingway's short story'Hills Like White Elephants'from three di mensions,that is,language use,interaction in social situations and the communication of beliefs(cognition),based on the theories of three dimensions of discourse put forward by van Dijk and Halliday and the multi-dimensional analysis of discourse developed by Ren Shaozeng,and combined with'The Lost Generation'in America after WWI and Hemingway's'Iceberg Principle'.Results indicate that making a discourse analysis from three dimensions helps to grasping the figurative meaning and the theme of the short story.The article concludes by discussing potential benefits as well as limitations of making a discourse analysis of the short story from three dimensions.
