Welty presents a vivid and striking picture of the American southern farmers, who are stricken by tiredness, poverty, cold and desperation in the short story. This paper tries to analyze how the stylistic features contribute to the development of the plot, illustrates the theme of the story and strengthen the reliability of the work from the perspective of point of view, and speech and thought presentation.
