Nominal clauses and attributive clauses have been expounded separately in grammar books, and thus English learners have to study them separately. In practice, however, they are prone to make mistakes in the two grammatical forms, being confused with them. The paper lists the differences in terms of clausal structures and grammatical functions by contrasting nominal clauses and attributive clauses.'As'is difficult to learn and English learners are prone to make mistakes when using it. The paper lists the typical examples of'as', analyzing'as'can imply'like something'or'like somebody', which can’t be explained simplistically as'which','that'or'who'. So,'as'can be replaced with'like what'when signifying'like something', and with'like somebody who'when signifying'like somebody'. The simple explanations may offer some guidance to the English learners confused with these grammatical phenomena.
