翻译作为突破语言障碍的文化交流活动,其实质是传递文化信息,从而达到文化移植和文化交融这一主旨。它是一种跨越时代,跨越地域,跨越民族,跨越语言的跨文化传播活动。随着翻译研究领域出现的语言学转向和文化转向的不断深入,尤其在多元文化交流日益频繁和密切的大语境下,因翻译所承载的文化使命和交际使命,以及翻译自身所具有的明显的人文学科的复杂性、多义性和模糊性,使得人们对翻译之于文化交流和传播所起的作用不得不重新审视和思考。

Translation is an inter-cultural transmission activity crossing the times, crossing the domains, nations, as well as the languages. With the further going of the linguistic and cultutral veer in the translation, especially in the multicutral context, it is specially significant to re-ponder the meaning of translation for the humanities’complexity, polysemy, and the ambiguity that translation has, as well as the cultural and communicating mission that translation carries. Linshu’s Translation, which is influential not only on the academic fields but also on the translation fields is a good case in point.
