English jokes are humorous and implicit. However, people in non-English speaking countries cannot totally understand English humor because of the differences between different cultures.'Friends'is an American sitcom which is very popular all over the world. This paper mainly tries to explain the causes of humor in English sitcom'Friends'in terms of Cooperative Principles of conversation. Specific samples are given to illustrate each cause, aiming to help readers reach a higher level of language understanding and appreciation of humorous connotations.
