In Jazz, Toni Morrison, the female African American novelist tells a story in which the heroine Violet loses herself and finally realizes self-salvation under social pressure and family crisis. This novel depicts the dilemma of black female’s subject con?struction. Through detailed analysis of Violet’s self-salvation from the perspectives of identity loss, emotion dilemma and spiritu?al salvation, with textual analysis, this article tries to interpret Morrison’s reflections on black female’s subject construction and of?fers readers a better understanding of the black culture.
