The Meta-function Interpretation of the Use of Passives in English Academic Paper

摘要 Passive voice is a common phenomenon in English academic papers, which is consistent with the academic stylistic and linguistic characteristics of academic papers. Based upon Halliday's meta-function, the present paper explores the significance and function of the passives used in academic papers. The purpose is to facilitate English learners'understanding of the passives used in academic papers, thereby improving the quality of the papers. Based upon Halliday’s meta-function, the present paper explores the significance and function of the passives used in academic papers. The purpose is to facilitate English learners’understanding of the passives used in academic papers, thereby improving the quality of the papers.
