该文结合教学实践,阐明了在新世纪大学英语教学的基本要求——以学生为中心,以教师为主导,培养学生的自主学习能力。分析了当前大学英语教学存在的主要问题。提出了培养和提高学生学习自主性的几种方法和活动。指出了无论何种教学方法、教学模式都应着眼于更好地提高学生的学习积极性、自主性和师生间的互动性。

Combined with teaching practice, this essay expounds the basic requirements for college English teaching in the new century-centered on students, guided by teachers, cultivate students’ability of self-directed learning. Analyze some major prob?lems in present college English teaching. Put forward some methods and activities to cultivate and improve students’ability of self-directed learning. Point out that any teaching method or teaching model should focus on better improving students’enthusiasm and self-direction for learning and the interactivity between teachers and students.
