摘要
Amy Tan is a renowned Chinese American writer who has won prestigious awards and also received various criticism from home and abroad. Her first novel The Joy Luck Club has won her several prestigious literary awards. However, the limitation of Orientalism is also manifested in the novel, which leads to much criticism. It is believed that the novel is popular because the binary distinction between the East and the West satisfies the ideological needs of the white-dominated society. This thesis is trying to interpret The Joy Luck Club from the perspective of Orientalism.
