The Analysis of Indirect Speech Acts in Roman Holiday

作为语用学的一个重要部分,间接言语行为理论为我们展示了一种学习语言的新视觉。此理论阐述了当说话者出于某种原因不愿意直接进行交流时,他们往往采用间接的方式来表达自己。该文将致力于挖掘《罗马假日》中间接言语行为理论的运用,分析男女主角在具体情境下对话的间接含义;并且通过对言外行为的学习分析出男女主角说话的真正意图,以更好地读懂电影的人物形象与表达的思想感情。

As an important part of modern pragmatics, speech act theory provides a new way to language studies. It points out the fact that speakers tend to adopt indirect methods to express themselves when they are not willing to communicate directly for certain reasons.This paper attempts to discover indirect speech acts in the movie Roman Holiday, and analyze the intended mean ing of the conservations between the hero and the heroine in specific contexts. I will try to figure out the real intentions of the in terlocutors by studying the types of the illocutionary acts, thus further understanding the characteristics and feelings of the people in this movie.
