The Translation of Chinese Tourist Guide from the Perspective of Language Functions

随着我国改革开放的深入进行,我国与世界各地的交流日益增多,旅游业也以前所未有的速度迅猛发展,每年都有大量外国游客涌向中国。而如何让他们了解中国则是汉语旅游指南翻译的重要任务。旅游指南要唤起游客的参观兴趣,传递信息,即旅游指南具有呼唤功能和信息功能,所以译者翻译时应结合其功能来译。在翻译时根据需要可以用释义、增词、类比等技巧,通过这些技巧的运用,根据需要,从不同程度再现原文功能,使外国游客更好地理解旅游指南。

With the further implementation of the policy of reform and opening-up,China has frequent communication with countries all over the world. Meanwhile,Chinese tourism has been developing rapidly. Many tourists crowd into China each year. Therefore,how to make foreigners know more about China becomes the main task of the translation of Chinese tourist guide. The main purposes of tourist guide are to arouse tourists' interests,to transmit Chinese culture and to make readers enjoy the beauty of the scenery spots which reflect the vocative,informative and aesthetic functions of tourist guide respectively. The translator should translate the tourist guide in accordance with its functions. In the process of translation,the translator can use such translating skills as paraphrase,amplification,analogy according to the specific situation. These skills can reproduce the func tions of the source text and enable the foreign tourists to understand tourist guide better.
