The article deals with Edgar Allan Poe's essay" The Poetic Principle", where the explanation of the Poe's theory will be discussed. The formulation of the theory always raises the question of its applicability, especially on the part of its originator, therefore, the purpose of this article will scrutinise to what extent Edgar Allan Poe stuck to his own principles. The method of comparative analysis will be applied.
