《喜福会》中从头到尾都充满了食物的意象,而且这些琐碎又丰富的食物意象传达了不同的意义。该文旨在分析"喜福会"聚会上的饮食、四位母亲回忆中的食物和体现中美文化差异的宴席,进而揭示食物这一特殊语言唤起美籍华裔女性对往昔的记忆和今朝的思考,折射她们对身份寻求的心路历程,实现了母女之间、文化之间的沟通和融合。

A range of food images can be found throughout Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. These trivial and rich food images carry different meanings. Aiming at an analysis of snacks at gatherings, foods in the four Chinese mothers ’memory, and feasts with cul-tural difference between China and America shown clearly, this essay reveals that food, a unique language, evokes the American Chinese women’s recalling and speculating on their present life. In addition, food provides a way to learn about their struggle for the identity, and helps a lot in the communication and merging between mother and daughter, especially between cultures.
