On Leila's Identity Construction through the Role of Other

伍慧明在其代表作《骨》中塑造了正面的华裔美国人莱拉的形象,从而提出华裔美国人的身份应该是超越中美文化差异的。该文运用拉康的镜像理论,从他者的角度解读莱拉为自身构建华裔美国人身份的心理历程。

In her first book Bone, Fae Myenne Ng creates the image of Leila, a positive Chinese American, in order to reveal that the identity of Chinese Americans should transcend cultural differences between China and the United States. This paper adopts Lacan's theory of Mirror Stage, and employs the concept of the'other', to analyze Leila's psychological process of constructing her own identity.
