First published in 1923, Jean Toomer's Cane is a masterpiece of the American modernism and the African American literature, as well as one of the pioneering works of the Harlem Renaissance, deals mostly with the origins and experiences of African Americans in the United States. For years, there have been abundant systematic studies on Cane both abroad and at home from different perspectives and a overview of the current study on it is presented here to show the richness of Cane's critical reception.
