摘要 In point of chronology, Jane Austen belongs to the age of Romanticism, but she would be placed with the realistic novelists because of her realism half a century later. Her sagacious perception and progressive thought made her one who surpassed her time. This essay introduces Austen briefly and probes into the charm of her most well-known novel Pride and Prejudice whose peculiarities lie in the humorous and ironical language and also in the ordinary world it presents where human beings are imperfect. It aims to shed some light on better understanding and appreciation of this masterpiece.
