Alice Walker’s representative novel The Color Purple adopts the epistolary form to tell the story of a black woman Celie who experiences changes from obedience to rebel.Walker does not only employ the traditional epistolary form,but also innovates and subverts it.In order to discuss the initiation theme of the novel profoundly,this essay will make an analysis of the female voice in the novel through the extraordinary epistolary narrative form.
