基于跨文化视角的太极拳术语英译初探

A Brief Analysis on English Translation of Tai Ji Quan Terms in Cross-cultural Communication

随着国际交流日益频繁,越来越多的外国人希望了解中国运动养生文化。太极拳作为中华文化的精髓被外国人所喜爱,但是其术语翻译标准却未能统一。因其深厚的文化内涵,太极拳术语翻译难度较大,既要求译者有较高的国学素养,又要求译者了解西方文化。该文通过文献调研法和分析对比法,对各翻译版本进行比较,并提出了音译,直译,意译结合注释的翻译方法,以便解决文化缺失、文化冲突等的问题,以期克服跨文化交流中的障碍,使太极拳名称英译更易被不同背景的读者认同,从而更有利于太极拳在海外的传播与发展,并为中国传统运动养生术语英译提供可参考的研究基础。

With the rapid development of global economic integration, international communication between different countries be-comes more frequently. More and more foreigners are eagle to get access to Chinese culture. Tai ji quan as one of the most essentialparts of Chinese culture has been attracted by a number of foreigners. But its abundant cultural connotation increases the difficultyof tai qi quan terms' translation so that the translators should not only be familiar with traditional Chinese culture but also withwestern culture. By analyzing and comparing existing versions and materials, this paper puts forward transliteration, literal transla-tion and paraphrase plus annotation, three translation skills to solve some international communication problems, such as culturalabsence, cultural conflict and cultural connotation words to overcome the barriers during the process of international communica-tion. The purpose of this paper is to provide a original opinion on English translation of tai ji quan terms and make the translationmore acceptable by foreigners. The translation will be in favor of promoting the development and spreading of tai ji quan in the west.
