Mitigation is a ubiquitous linguistic phenomenon in the process of interpersonal communication and it plays an impor-tant role in constructing harmonious interpersonal relationship. This paper aims to summarize the related findings about the mitiga-tion at home and abroad, including the delimitation of mitigation, its strategies, theory perspectives and its prospects in the futurestudy.
