Foxfire is an initiation story that tells about the initiation journey of several American teenage girls from lower class in the 1950s. Its structure consists of the important elements of the archetypal structure of initiation story, i.e. the plight, the puzzle?ment, the ordeal and the epiphany etc., which are handled within a context of violence. For the protagonist, violence is a nightmare, which but otherwise gives much food for her thought and consciousness, and is also a guide to her tragic life. Through the violence narrative of initiation theme, Foxfire exposes the initiation problems of American youth, and questions the inspiration of“American dream”for adolescent education.
