从卡特福德翻译转换理论视角看文言文英译——以《捕蛇者说》为例

On the Translation of Classical Chinese Writing from the Perspective of Catford's Theory of Translation Shifts——A Case Study of the Snake Catcher

汉语和英语两种不同语言文化之间存在种种差异,文言文与英语的差异更大。为达到翻译的交际目的,有时只能做出偏离原文形式的选择。该文以卡特福德的翻译转换理论为指导,通过对文言文《捕蛇者说》英译文中出现的源语与译入语在层次、范畴内的转换进行实例分析,探讨文言文英译篇章等值的实现途径。

Chinese and English as two kinds of languages are different in many ways and such differences are more apparent be-tween classical Chinese and English. It is inevitable to translate in a different way from the original text in order to fulfill the com-munication of translation. Taking the Snake Catcher as a case and applying Catford's theory of translation shifts, this article aimsto discuss the ways to achieve textual equivalence of the translation from the classical Chinese writing into English
