With the rapid development of science and technology, researchers now wish to introduce their research findings to morepeople and make them understand. Since English is a world language, papers on scientific research findings are usually translatedinto English. It Is up to the requirements of the target journal or periodical as to the format of an English paper, especially the styleof documentation. Different fields prefer different documentation styles. For example, the APA style developed by American Physio-logical Association is mainly used in physiology, education and social science; the MLA style is mainly used in culture and art sub-jects; while the Chicago style is mainly used in books, magazines and news. This paper will distinguish a few confusing terms in sci-entific paper writing on the basis of several commonly used documentation styles(the APA style, the MLA style, the Chicago style,the Vancouver style, the Harvard style, etc.) It is hoped that this paper would be of some help.
