《白象似的群山》是海明威的经典短篇小说代表作之一。海明威以简洁洗练,朴实无华独特的写作风格而著称,为此他还创造了一种电报式文体。虽然全篇只有短短几千余字,但海明威以简单的故事情节和简练朴实的对话生动地描述了人物的内心世界,深刻揭示了主题思想。该文运用了象征,重复等文体特征来展示海明威"冰山原则"的艺术风格。
Hills Like White Elephants is one of Hemingway’s classical short stories. Hemingway is known for his unique writing style-conciseness and plainness, therefore he created a telegraphic style. Although the whole passage has only about thousands of words, Hemingway used simple plots and conversations to describe the inner world of people, it deeply revealed the theme as well. In this essay, it applied symbolism and reiteration to show Hemingway’s“Principle of Iceberg”.
