Valency grammar points out a sentence’s center is its verb predicate which dominates over other interdependent constit?uents. Meanwhile, there is a language phenomenon called metaphor clusters which are traditionally deemed as an improper rhetori?cal device. This paper attempts to analyze metaphor clusters with Lakoff’s conceptual metaphor theory to prove verbs’central role in sentences and reveal the consistency in seemingly illogical metaphor clusters.
